Facebook have just announced plans to let their Open Graph search engine begin to draw in content from outside of Facebook.
For a while now there has been speculation that Facebook is trying to produce a 'Social Semantic Search Engine' to serve up search results based on user information rather than 'html content' as google does.
The intention is to keep users 'within Facebook' when they need to search the internet for something.
Although this is seen as another step towards competing with Google, the service is far from perfect and also requires websites to have changes made to their meta data to be included as a search result.
It's early days yet but it will certainly add an extra dimension to consider when optimising web site for the internet.
